I wouldn’t recognize how sometimes I’ve heard atheists tell people struggling with depression, “Pray to god, and that he will help you.” Do you know a person that happens to be an Atheist? Do you know what Atheism means? Atheists are in fact those who do not believe in God.
I just wondered the way that they live life without God and also to whom they believe in. I just don’t want to judge each of them because they are those who also deserves to be respected. I want to know something good about them because individuals often question their existence.
Not until I’ve read a post entitled, “With No God, Where do Atheists Turn in Times of Crisis?”
I got curious about reading what Blair Scott is trying to convey here, who is the author of this news. Blair is really an American Atheist. I’m just curious with their beliefs in life.
Blair Scott said, “Prayer and gods do not cure our diseases or solve problems during times of crisis. Where prayer and faith help is by calming the fears people have because prayer acts as a form of meditation and can have a therapeutic influence (even a placebo effect). Prayer and faith may give people the courage and emotional strength to continue, but they do not solve the problems that people face.”
“… God and prayer do not cure clinical depression. Clinical depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain that prayer cannot cure.”
As being a Christian, I’m gonna disagree with the information he stated because I do believe God can help us cure our diseases and solve our problems in life.
Blair Scott added, “When you hear about people that were praying to a god during a time of crisis it is important to pay attention to their story. Often you will find that those that were actively praying during a crisis were in a stagnant mode. They were hiding under a desk (as we witnessed at Columbine) or were hiding in a basement or bathroom (such as in tornado activity) or were doing something else that left them inactive during the crisis. Those that were taking action talk about thanking their god after-the-fact. The atheists, on the other hand, thank the firefighters, police officers, rescuers, medical doctors, etc.”
Upon reading the last paragraph of the news, I did pause for a little bit and attempted to figure out and getting something good with all the Atheists.
Until I came across a thought, that being a Christian, we all know how to hear from God; we think that God helps us in times we’re in great trouble, during times of crisis and calamities that’s happening these days. But what people must do is help themselves also. As we pray, we must make a move also to help ourself with all the problems we’ve got. It is necessary sometimes to live on a practical life. Don’t expect God to answer all your prayers, get something done! Think of this proverb in life that people all need to know, “God helps people who help themselves.”
